It’s countdown week for the release of my last Bedford County novella, A Canine Christmas.
As you probably know, dogs have been a part of most of my books. Illusions (Book 2 in my Apple Hill Series) had Rambo, the family’s West Highland Terrier. The Bainbridge family dog in Providence (Book 3 in the Apple Hill Series) was a Bichon Frise named Dashiell, after the author Dashiell Hammett who wrote The Maltese Falcon. Einstein, my own Bichon (pictured above), was the inspiration for this family’s pet.
When I launched the Bedford County Series with Night Songs, a German Shepherd aptly named Dog was featured. I hadn’t even planned on him being in the book until he showed up in the first chapter. Then he stole the show.
Next was the Christmas novella These Simple Gifts, and Annalee Prichard’s pair of Beaucerons, Beau and Ceron. And last, but certainly not least, was Rocket, the Giordano’s Golden Retriever in Mayhem and Moonlight.
A Canine Christmas features Rayce Jasper’s Cano Corso, Porter. This very large dog was inspired by my granddaughters’ dog—same breed, same name. And though I love the cover, one of my granddaughter’s pointed out that the dog on it doesn’t look like Porter, which is true.
I wrote a short story called Soul Sniffer, which was published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: 101 Life Lessons from the Dog. Although it’s not a Christmas story, I thought it was the perfect “dog” gift for those who would like to read it. Just click the link on the title and download your pdf copy.

You were blessed to have a dog growing up. They sure give us a lot of great memories, don’t they?
I’m not a dog person but my family members are. I get skittish with any physical contact with dogs or any domestic pets. The dog in our house notice this after he tried to play with me like he was playing with other family members and later learned to love me from a distance. I love and Care for our dog and feed him whenever I’m available. I love having dogs around as long as there won’t be any physical contact with them.

I can understand why you would have issues with physical contact with dogs. I am not great with large dogs unless I am very well acquainted with them. Our dog is only six pounds, so he’s more like a stuffed animal.
