Yesterday I shared how Lillian Murphy became a librarian. If you’ve ever had a desire to make people do what you want, consider becoming an author. Just be aware that the Holy Spirit can (and will) override you on a regular basis. But the Lord also weaves the most incredible “coincidences” together to in the midst of story planning.
Take Luca Giordano, for example. Okay, I’m going to admit that while I find it easier to write from the male perspective, it’s so much harder coming up with jobs for them. I would’ve chosen my son-in-law’s career for Luca if I could understand what it is he does. I asked my daughter once, and she said, “I’m not quite sure.” It has something to do with security software, but after that, I’m lost. And if he can’t explain it satisfactorily to my daughter, how could he possibly make me understand?
So, security software guy wasn’t an option. My last book, Tangles and Tinsel, was easy because I chose a chiropractor for Jax Jensen. Why? Because that’s what my husband did for over thirty years. In fact, that’s how we met. I even worked in his office for the last three years before he retired. Again, hands-on experience is so much easier.
It was while I was struggling with a career for Luca that I had a conversation with our old neighbors from Northern California. They were excited to share that their son and his wife had just published a book of their own—a nonfiction titled Winning the Week: How to Plan a Successful Week Every Week. I wanted to show support, so I bought it. Little did I know it was an answer from the Lord.
I discovered that the author (and son of my friends) Demir, is a productivity expert. I never heard of such a thing. I didn’t know there were people out there who made a career out of helping people be more productive. And it got me thinking. If Librarian Lillian is a bit of a scatterbrain (like my own sweet daughter can be at times—although she can blame it on her TBI) who to be a better antagonist than someone completely focused on schedules and optimizing productivity?
And Luca’s career was born!
I have another fun fact that ties in with Demir (and his twin brother) that I will share tomorrow.
