I wanted this blog post to be about Christmas, and it is, in a roundabout way. I had something completely different in mind, and was sidetracked by what you’ll read here today. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. Maybe someone out there needs to view this particular post, and who am I to go one way when the Lord presses it on my heart to go another? So here goes…
My husband Chris and I aren’t much into reality TV, and it was just by happenstance that we watched Darci Lynne Farmer, child ventriloquist, on America’s Got Talent in 2017. Never before or since have we viewed the show, although we were taken aback by the unusual talent of this young girl. Ventriloquism is a tough act, add to it the age of the performer and the fact that she sang, yes sang, in her performance, and you might understand why she’s stuck in my mind. Although I love to sing, I can’t sing worth beans even with my mouth wide open to take advantage of air pressure and resonance. It used to be if I sang along with the radio while Chris was in the car, he’d turn up the volume, not that I blamed him. I’m just sharing this so you’d know I’m not just being humble when I say I can’t sing, and I’m hugely impressed with those who can.
The fact that we live near the music capital of the world, only adds to my lack of musical talent. I know God will give me the voice of an angel when I get to heaven, which will have to suffice. Still, I can easily be moved to tears when I hear an amazing voice. Add that to Christmas music (more specifically those which include Jesus) and I’m wrecked.
A couple of weeks ago, a woman from our church told us that she got tickets to see Michael W. Smith at the Grand Ol’ Opry on December 16th. I was interested, because I’ve always heard what an incredible show he puts on, but when she said Darci Lynne Farmer would be performing with him, we didn’t hesitate to book tickets for that one-night-only performance.
Maybe you aren’t impressed with ventriloquism. I get that. It’s not my usual cup of tea, either. But this little girl has so much heart and personality, you’d have to be a Grinch to not be moved. I dare you to check out the video I’ve included. If you like her (and how can you not?) all you have to do is Google her to find more clips. I can’t wait to see where life takes this young lady.

Fun. She is impressive. I’m glad you got to go to that double-header concert.
