Between the Lines with Leslie and Laura

This has been another exciting month for my podcast, Between the Lines of Christian Fiction. I met a delightful author, Leslie Tally, who shared her debut novel with me. What a delightful woman with all the stereotypical Southern charm one would expect when meeting someone from Mississippi. She has an incredible story you won’t want to miss.

I was also blessed to interview Laura Thomas for the second time. She is originally from England but has spent more than half her life in Canada. She says her English friends think she sounds Canadian, and her Canadian friends think she sounds English. Regardless of which accent you might hear, she is extremely talented and articulate. Her newest novel, Captured in Frame, is set in the English countryside.

Leslie Tally’s debut novel, Safely Kept, is a romantic suspense with a thread of faith woven throughout the storyline. It is set in the South and spans three generations. The book has a somewhat complicated plot inspired by the lives of her grandparents. One of her goals in writing this story was to accurately depict the way a legacy of faith can transcend all elements: time, trappings, and most importantly: human failings.

While Leslie has a gift with the written word, she was also named Mississippi’s Teacher of the Year in 2021.

Here is the back cover blurb for Safely Kept:

“… Joe and I promised we would talk to no one about it; this is a secret we must take to our graves. Unless it kills us first.”

Two generations. One family. Countless secrets. Lizzie Beth Thompson longs to preserve her childhood memories with her grandparents. What she doesn’t know is that the reality of their love story is far different than her childhood perception allowed. Will she discover the truth about her grandparents’ relationship —and how it endured— before time erases them altogether? This breathtaking story reveals a single thread of faith, woven into the tapestry of one family’s very messy and, at times criminal, legacy.

Safely Kept is available on Amazon in ebook, paperback, and Kindle Unlimited.

You can connect with Leslie on her website.

Laura Thomas is a prolific writer of many Christian genres including romantic suspense, teen fiction, and children’s books. Her newest release Captured in Frame is Book 1 in her Bite of Betrayal Series is Christian romantic suspense.

Laura’s previous Flight to Freedom Series includes The Glass Bottom Boat, The Lighthouse Baby, and The Orphan Beach. Her Tears Trilogy for teens includes Tears to Dancing, Tears of a Princess, and Tears, Fears, and Fame.

Not only does Laura pen stories, but she is a Hope certified writing coach, as well. She says, “The perceived glamours lifestyle of a writer—penning a perfect manuscript while sipping a cappuccino with author friends outside a Parisian café—is both delightful and delusional! In reality, the writer’s solitary existence can be fraught with frustration, failure, and fear…”

Captured in Frame Back Cover Copy:

In an idyllic village nestled in the English countryside, photographer Georgia Brooks is desperate to begin a new chapter in her life. Bramble Cottage was supposed to give her space to heal and hope again after suffering betrayal and rejection by the only man she ever loved. This was Georgia’s chance to rekindle her faith and reconnect with her sisters in a place that held sweet childhood memories—not expose herself to the ugly underbelly of the art world and put her family in danger.

Local pediatric surgeon, Doctor William Hughes, is captivated by the Canadian beauty with a camera over one shoulder and the weight of the world on the other. After suffering his own tragic loss and balancing a demanding career with raising a toddler, he recognizes the heaviness of grief . . . and the burden of guilt.

When Georgia discovers she could be in possession of incriminating evidence to frame a criminal ring, she needs to trust someone. She chooses Will. Postcards, photographs, paintings—something about Bramble Cottage is worth killing for. Can Georgia uncover the truth in time?
