Here we are in month two of my new Between the Lines podcast. It has been such an incredible blessing to meet with these ladies. I might even get a male author interested in being interviewed, but the majority of Christian fiction authors happen to be women. It’s amazing to hear the different stories and find out how long these ladies have been writing and what inspired them to start, and what inspires them to continue.
I consider this writing gig a full-time occupation, yet many of the interviewees are also raising a family and/or working outside the home. I’m beyond impressed. Meghann Whistler has three young boys and finds the time to pen fun, inspirational romance stories. She is the Love Inspired author of Falling for the Innkeeper and The Baby’s Christmas Blessing.
Both she and her husband are originally from Canada and met on a blind date, which she retells with humor in our interview. She has a Master’s degree in fine arts and creative writing. I doubt there is much this woman can’t do.
When she’s not writing, reading, or jamming out to Christian rock music, you can find her enjoying a relaxing evening with her rocket scientist husband (seriously—he’s a rocket scientist) or playing with her three kids.

Unlike most of the authors I’ve been interviewing, I met Melissa a couple of years ago when we were both part of a book signing in Greeneville, Tennessee. She is also a Celebrate Lit author, so we also have that in common. She also has a story in Keeping Christmas, Volume II titled Christmas at Curwood’s Castle.
Melissa Wardwell is the author of the Independence Island Series (with five books), Promise from Above Series, and A Hometown Wedding Series. She is also a blogger and reviewer with Back Porch Reads. I love how she describes what helps her function every day:
Faith, Fiction, & Coffee – these three things are at the very center of what helps me functioning each day.
Faith – my firm belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and came to this world to bridge the gap between God and man is not just part of something I believe. I live it to the best of my ability. “This is more than a Sunday thing.”
Fiction – I love fiction. I’ll read almost any novel if I have time. That’s why I chose to write fiction over non-fiction. When I found other authors drop biblical truths in the middle of a story to minister to the reader in an unassuming way, I said, “I want to be part of that.” So, here I am, sharing the heart of Christ through works of fiction.
And last, but not least…
COFFEE – I’m human, not a saint. Everyone needs something to give them that morning boost to catapult them into the day.
So, if you’ve read this far, thank you for letting me into your time and hearing the heart of this crazy author.
I’m sure you’ll find Melissa as warm and welcoming as I have.
