My favorite aspect of podcasting is getting to know so many amazing, creative authors. When I started Between the Lines, I was encouraged by my publisher to stick with contemporary works because that’s typically what I write—more specifically, Southern fiction.
As authors responded to my invitation to be interviewed on Between the Lines, their compelling storylines, whether futuristic, historical, written for middle school children, or little ones, opened my eyes to the diversity of choices available for readers of any genre or age. And December’s recap is a proof of that. Terry Overton writes both middle school and contemporary fiction, although our interview was focused on her middle school series.
Philip Martin is an inspiration. He didn’t write his first book until after he turned 70, and he has quite the story to share. If you’re a dog lover (as I am) you’ll want to also check out the video of our interview so you can meet his beautiful Tibetan Terrier Tashi.
Read more about both authors below.
It was a pleasure to meet author Terry Overton and discuss her newest release The Journey, Book 5 in her Underground Book Readers Series. Along with this middle grade series, she also has the well-received series The Newton Chronicles as well as contemporary Christian novels and devotionals. You can connect with her via her website.

She and her husband live in the southern tip of Texas where they enjoy semi-tropical weather, playing golf, and spending time with their friends and family.
Are you looking for a unique tale of adventure for your child that also teaches leadership skills? Does your child love dogs? Then look no further. Philip Martin’s Tales from Tibet is here. With beautifully drawn illustrations combined with his vast experience in leadership, this book will quickly become a favorite of your child’s while teaching the skills we all need to hone.
Meet Sashi (inspired by Philip’s late Tibetan terrier) and Tashi (the newest addition to his home) on an adventure as they travel back to their roots. Each stop along the way gives the reader an important lesson in life skills while delighting and educating.
