Let’s start with an easy question, Stacy. How long have you been writing?
If we discount the awful poetry I wrote as a teen, only six years.
Awful or not, everything we write is a journey toward authorship. What advice would you give a new writer or a wanna-be writer?
Make sure to study the craft, find a local writers group in your area and become part of it. Find critique partners that will give you “tough love” on your work. And keep on going; it’s worth it.
I absolutely agree. Just with anything worthwhile, it takes time, practice, and perseverance to acquire a level of professionalism. I’m always curious how other authors develop characters. What about you?
Some of my characters are based on real people with enough “blur” between reality and fiction to not be recognizable.
What is the most surprising thing you’ve discovered while writing your book(s)?
I’ve found that it’s very cathartic. They help me overcome past situations, hurts, or things I didn’t want to dig deeper and investigate.
I have found that to be true, as well. Tell us about your first published book. What was the journey like?
I’ve rewritten it three times over. While writing other stories, I tweaked the first one. Six years will have passed by the time it debuts. It taught me patience, tenacity, and endurance. There have been lots of prayers, by me and close friends, poured over it. That to me, is an absolute treasure of the heart.
It’s so true that the journey is often much more important than the destination! But now that you’ve reached that particular “destination” what do you hope your readers will take away from this novel?
To keep on pursuing what they’d like to accomplish, through faith, and tenacity.
