Interview with Author Blossom Turner

I am so excited to introduce you to my good friend and amazing author, Blossom Turner. She and I have been on parallel writing journeys. We met at Mount Hermon Writer’s Conference in 2009, both took time away from writing to work with our husbands and started back at the same time. Last year at the conference, we both met with different publishers, received contracts and had our first book release just one day apart. I’m so grateful that God orchestrated our journeys to be in tandem. And here’s Blossom…

The Story Behind the Story.

As an author, people ask me what inspired Anna’s Secret. First, I will share the back cover copy and then explain.

Anna’s Secret (An Inspirational Romance)

Why not hide behind that one little lie?

Anna Clarke is worn out from years of taking care of her chronically ill husband. When he dies and loneliness consumes her, the consummate good girl falls from grace in a moment of weakness and passion.

She tries to forget what happened—until the bomb drops. She’s pregnant.
But there’s a way out. Her friends and family assume the baby is her late husband’s. Anna embraces the lie burying the truth in the deep recesses of her soul. Until, the biological father comes knocking—the handsome Dr. Matthew Carmichael. A man who wants to be a father and desires a relationship with Anna.

However, the lies have multiplied and spun out of control. The truth threatens to destroy all of Anna’s most cherished relationships.
Will Anna find the courage to face the most difficult decision of her life—telling the truth and her feelings for Matthew Carmichael?

So much of what an author writes comes from that deep place within, lessons they have learned, world values they hold, sorrows they have overcome. Anna’s Secret is completely fictitious, but the message on love, failure and forgiveness is as old as time.

I began writing Anna’s Secret years ago with nothing more than a good romance in mind, but halfway through the process, I found out my own personal life was unraveling. My husband had failed me in the worst way possible with many a lie of his own. The truth of infidelity hit hard. Here I was in the midst of writing about a character that needed her family to forgive her, and my own words haunted the portals of my mind. I did not like the trite way in which I had depicted the pain people cause others when they sin. Nor, could I bare the thought of forgiveness; I was too angry and wounded. So that book sat uncompleted on a shelf where I planned to keep it.

Fast forward twelve years … a restored marriage, the incredibly difficult principle of forgiving the unforgivable accomplished, and God’s healing power given. I had stepped away from writing to work alongside my husband in a new business venture. After five years, God made it clear it was time to leave the business and return to my writing. When I prayed for direction on what to write, He told me to pick up Anna’s Secret. I could barely remember the characters. After updating the first half of the book, the rest of the story literally poured out of me and was completed in a matter of a month. God had a message for me to share.

I see fiction as a modern-day parable when infused with the Spirit of God. Anna’s Secret will indeed entertain you, and I’ve been told by others it is a beautiful love story, but if that’s all it delivers, I will be most disappointed. I pray Anna’s Secret will touch deep into your soul and you will be encouraged in the Lord.
