Today we welcome Christian western romance author Janith Hooper. Jan and I met at the Mount Hermon Writer Conference in 2009 and have been friends since.
First off, Jan, tell us about your most recent novel or work in progress.
My most recently published book, Let Your Heart Beat Again (A Breath Without Life Novel – Book One) was released in June 2017.
The next release will be book two in the same series (August 2018) titled Let Yourself Run Free Again (A Breath Without Life Novel – Book Two).
What three things about you would surprise your readers?
The first thing that would surprise my readers is that the male protagonists in all my books are loosely based off of a combination of my husband and four sons’ personalities, definitely their heights (from 6’3” to 6’7”), and their physical attributes.
Secondly, my stories mostly come from my own experiences or ones I’ve observed.
Thirdly, that I’ve only been writing in my golden years. I started writing when I was 56, nearly a dozen years ago.
What is your most difficult writing challenge and how do you overcome it?
My most difficult writing obstacle is the description. It’s like having to put the entire book into one, short, compelling version that has to capture the reader’s attention within the first ten seconds. I don’t know that I’ve overcome it, but I can say that my editor helps.
And lastly, what is your summer read recommendation?
Ah, a great summer read has to be a good, lengthy novel, in my opinion. Something like Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. I usually read a book every four or five days, so I will likely pick up a good 15 books this summer. Some Christian western romance, like I write and some contemporary romances, such as Billionaire love stories. Don’t know why they are a favorite of mine, but they are. I also highly recommend and may re-read: Hearts Awakening by Delia Parr, a historical romance.
Janith Hooper grew up on a ranch in northern California. Ranch and farm life is what she knows, romance what she adores, and western romance what she loves to write. Janith lives with her husband of forty-four years in Oakdale, California—Cowboy Capital of the World. She has four grown sons, three daughters-in-love, and four grandchildren. After raising their sons, God directed her path to write novels. A Quaking Heart is her debut trilogy (Harper Ranch). Two books in her next series, A Breath Without Life, are now available (Cooper Bar-6 Ranch).
