Today we welcome contemporary Christian author Kathy Boyd Fellure. Before we start the interview, I’d like to announce that Kathy’s summer launch will be this Saturday, June 16th, at The Tahoe City Wine Walk. She’ll be at the Boatworks Mall from noon to 4 PM, rain or shine!
First off, Kathy, tell us about your most recent novel or work in progress.
The Language of the Lake is my January 2018 released debut novel. It is contemporary women’s fiction with an historical/lyrical bent. The story takes place in 1995 on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, California. I made the lake a character in the book. Thirty-nine year old widow Emily has much to deal with while on a grief-imposed sabbatical her Sacramento boss insisted she take—or lose her job. She retreats to her Nana’s cabin for the summer. It is a journey of love, hate and forgiveness. Returning memories of her twin brother’s drowning at the age of almost four complicate her recovery as does the insistence of childhood friend/nemesis, Jack Conner, who has always been in love with her. Somewhere in the middle of all the muck in her life, Emily discovers the person she never knew – herself. First book in the, On the Water’s Edge Tahoe Trilogy.
I am currently working on my 5th novel ~ Harper House, which takes place in England.
What three things about you would surprise your readers?
I’m trying to read a Bible (La Bible de Jerusalem) my granddaughter brought me from France. I took five years of French, but this is a huge challenge that I am so enjoying.
I still love to hula-hoop! It is great exercise and lots of fun.
I am the second of eight daughters—no brothers. Four of us are writer/authors. The seven sisters still living meet regularly for board and word game “Sister Nights”.
What is your most difficult writing challenge and how do you overcome it?
Self-doubt is my most difficult writing obstacle. I overcome it with a lot of time in prayer. God is so faithful to refresh and revive me. He gives the grace and courage I need to move forward in faith!
And lastly, what is your summer read recommendation?
Things I Never Told You By Beth K. Vogt. It’s a story about four sisters, which was the first big draw-in for me. I like Beth’s writing and am looking forward to the unfolding story of relationships between the women. Hoping for in-depth characters and expect to be whisked away into the book. I will be taking it on vacation with me the middle of June!
