We’ve all heard it before—this is a small world in which we live. Kevin Bacon’s theory of six degrees of separation is true for anyone who doesn’t live under a rock. When I connected via Zoom to interview Laura Thomas for my podcast (who happens to live in British Columbia), we quickly discovered that one of her writing partners is also a close friend of mine. I’d say, “What are the chances?” but obviously they’re pretty good.
My favorite part of podcasting is meeting new people from all walks of life—from Laura who was born in the UK and lives in Canada to Leigh Lincoln who writes from her passion for the homeless and poverty-stricken. Everyone has a story to tell, and each person does it in his or her unique way.
I like to know what the author’s writing schedule is like. Some of these authors are empty nesters (like me) but some write with kids running around in the background. It shows me that when the Lord puts a story on our hearts, He will make it happen one way or another.
Laura Thomas is a prolific writer in many Christian genres including romantic suspense, teen fiction, and children’s books. Her newest release The Christmas Cabin is a stand-alone Christmas novella from her Flight to Freedom Series.
Other Flight to Freedom Series novels include The Glass Bottom Boat, The Lighthouse Baby, and The Orphan Beach. Her Tears Trilogy for teens includes Tears to Dancing, Tears of a Princess, and Tears, Fears, and Fame.
Not only does Laura pen stories, but she is a Hope certified writing coach, as well. She says, “The perceived glamours lifestyle of a writer—penning a perfect manuscript while sipping a cappuccino with author friends outside a Parisian café—is both delightful and delusional! In reality, the writer’s solitary existence can be fraught with frustration, failure, and fear…”

Leigh Lincoln never intended to write a book, but she was so moved by the homeless situation in our country, she felt compelled to take notes. Those notes inspired a fictionalized story which became Book 1—The Road Home which was a passion project.. It was intended to be a standalone story in which she tries to show that every life is a broken road that only Christ can fix.
Because of the popularity of The Road Home, written in 2016, Leigh was moved to continue with three more novels—Road to Freedom (2020), Finding the Real Road (2021), and The Road West (2022). These four novels make up her Broken Road Series.
Leigh’s stories may be fiction, but each one has grains of truth woven into them. As she travels life’s journey, she takes the time to listen to everyone she meets and gleans wisdom from what they share. Her goal as an author is to raise awareness of homeless and poverty issues. Because of this, she gives a portion of all book sales to charity.
Leigh is self-published, and you can connect with her via her website (and sign up for her newsletter) and/or her Amazon Author page.
