About the Book

Book: Book, Chapter, & Vows

Author: Chautona Havig

Narrator: Christa DelSorbo

Genre: Christian Women’s Fiction

Release date: September, 2022

Falling in love with Benjamin wasn’t in the plan, but Mallory finds she’s all but lost her head and her heart after two and a half years of banter, memories, and now shared books.

But when her ex-fiance (does it count if it was just for a few hours?) shows up right in the middle of a writing project with Benjamin, the guy manages to ruin her happiness… again.

Benjamin has been keeping one tiny part of him back from Mallory–just the one thing that’ll repel her for good.
So when the ex-boyfriend-slash-fiance shows up, and things look serious again, he takes a giant step back and prays he can keep his heart intact in the process.

They’re clearly meant for each other. God obviously has a plan. So what’s it going to take for Mallory and Benjamin to work things out and get those vows made? This Breakers Head novel is Chautona Havig’s final book in the Independence Islands Series featuring five islands, six authors, and a boatload of happily-ever-afters.The Independence Islands Series: beach reads aren’t just for summer anymore.

My Thoughts

Book, Chapter, & Vows by Chautona Havig is Book 25 of the Independence Island Series. It must be challenging to create so many stories by various authors in the same setting. Especially since everything must weave together to make it consistent. Characters of each book are a part of the whole, so although each story focuses on a particular couple, I think reading them in order would give a better perspective on backstory and a better flavor for the island and its inhabitants.

The audiobook version, narrated by Christa DelSorbo, was my first experience with Book, Chapter, & Vow, and I did feel as if I was plopped mid-story. There were characters and issues that started before this book. Mallory and Benjamin—the focus of this novel—are a sweet couple on the brink of an engagement—or at least that’s what they both think. Insecure in their relationship, there are miscommunications (or no communication) when things don’t go as they’d planned. I found myself muttering, “Just talk to each other,” throughout it. Which is also the advice they both received from wise, frustrated friends. But the reality is, most issues within relationships are created by a lack of communication, so it is relatable.

I felt as if I didn’t get the whole picture, which is only because I came late to the party. I’ve only read a couple books in this series, and considering there were twenty-four before, I’ve missed a lot. The conflict between the two of them is light, and as a women’s fiction author, I generally expect there to be more drama, but that’s on me, not the author. Christa’s narration was well done, especially in Mallory’s voice.

If you want a light romance with engaging characters, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. All the authors in this series are well-respected, especially Chautona Havig, so I suggest you treat yourself and read them in order for the full experience.

I was given a copy from the publisher for reviewing purposes, but the opinions are my own.

About the Author

Chautona Havig lives in an oxymoron, escapes into imaginary worlds that look startlingly similar to ours, and writes the stories that emerge. An irrepressible optimist, Chautona sees everything through a kaleidoscope of It’s a Wonderful Life sprinkled with fairy tales. Find her at chautona.com and say howdy—if you can remember how to spell her name.

About the Narrator

Speaking Life into Story

Queen of the one-eyebrow quirk, Christa DelSorbo auditioned for the role of Tarzan’s mom and has the photos to prove she ended up as the only cast member in a literal cast. These days, they keep her stuck in a box with a ball on a stick and only feed her when she reads another chapter of another fabulous book. She loves every minute. Or so they tell her. *eyebrow slowly raises *

  1. I agree with the reviewer’s statement that “most issues within relationships are created by a lack of communication.”
I imagine someone listening to the book will benefit from such a message. This sounds like a good book.
