- Lightening bugs. As the summer sun just starts to go down, we get a magical blinking light show all over our yard and up in the trees. What a delight!
- Summer storms. Sweet rain in the midst of a hot summer day puts a smile on my face and results in…
- How green everything is all summer long. Living in California my whole life and appreciating the beauty there, it’s a whole new experience to look upon rolling hills of green rather than amber waves of brown.
- Sweet Southern hospitality, which is contagious. I love hearing our young neighbor speak with such respect, “Yes ma’am” or “no sir.” I want to adopt him!
- Experiencing new wildlife: White-tailed deer with their fawns literally right outside our window; walking stick bugs (which I’d previously only seen on nature shows); the sound of cicadas (although the sight of them isn’t so sweet); Red cardinals flitting around the trees chasing each other. Even armadillos. Who knew?
- New places to explore. I adore California beaches (Carmel is my favorite with their dog-friendly beach) but there is a plethora of new sights here. And, we’re very close to several different states. An hour from Alabama and Georgia, only a few hours from North Carolina and Kentucky.
- Believe it or not, the humidity. This was the number one warning we received from our California friends, but both my husband and I actually like it. The summer temps aren’t as warm here as where we lived in California, but the humidity is different and our skin loves it. I’ll save a fortune on moisturizer.
- The cost of vehicle registration. Registering our two vehicles and travel trailer was only a third of the cost of registering just our truck in California.
- No state income tax. Need I say more?
- Being on this incredible adventure with my sweet, fun-loving husband!

This makes me want to visit Tennessee. Thank for words that create pictures in my mind.
Love you thanks for sharing. Marcie and I plan to move to Nevada in about two years. We too are looking forward to a new adventure.
Glad you are enjoying the choice you made. My biggest enjoyment comes from the years of deeply satisfying friendships made over time and then making new memories with those people. You and Chris will develop new important friendships in time, then you’ll have the best of both worlds. 😉 Praying you guys will get plugged into a great church. I know you will.
