It feels as if it was only a few months ago that my first Christmas novella came out, and now here we are again. I’m a few days behind, but this past Tuesday, November 9th, Wish Upon a Star was released. To make it a little unique, I’m going to offer ideas for Christmas traditions you may want to instill in your own family to make the holiday memorable for your children. Stop by each day to learn a about the characters in this story, gather a little inspiration, and enter for a chance to win a prize.
Main character, Elaina Hensley, is a single mother of two daughters. Although she works as a nurse at the hospital, her main priority is protecting her girls and giving them a life filled with every good thing she can. If you read Providence, Book 3 in my Apple Hill Series, you would have met Elaina and her older daughter, Sarah.
Although Elaina’s adult life has been riddled with grief and poor choices, she is a nurturer at heart, which is why she became a nurse. I believe nurses are God’s angels in disguise. They care for others above themselves, which is what we, as Christ followers, are expected to do every day.
One Christmas tradition that teaches children how to serve others is to give to the poor. There are many ways to do this, but I find it’s especially meaningful when children are able to choose a personal gift for a special needy child and wrap it themselves (with a little help from Mom or Dad). There are often Angel Trees available in the community that will have a child’s name, gender, and age to help with a gift choice. If one isn’t available, check with your local Good Will.
Fairy tales and wishing upon stars are for those who still believe in romance.
Sometimes misplaced trust injures more than ourselves, and doesn’t Elaina Hensley know it. When her oldest daughter is left suffering the consequences, Elaina vows to protect her girls at any cost. Nothing, not even her own happiness, will sway her again.
Or will it?
She’s got this protective self-denial down pat–right up to the moment her best friend’s brother arrives on the scene like a fairytale knight, vowing to slay all her dragons. She must—she will resist.
However, when her worst nightmare comes back to haunt her, Elaina has to admit she needs that white knight on her side.

My family participates in the angel tree every year. It is one of my beautiful memories. I still practice.
